About

At Botany Tees, we use primarily Comfort Colors® 100% US-grown cotton tee shirts for our designs. We think Comfort Colors tees are superior because they’re ring-spun for amazing softness and durability. They also belong to the US Cotton Trust Protocol.  The USCTP ensures the ethical and sustainable production of cotton textiles.  Six key metrics are taken into account:  land use, soil carbon, water management, soil loss, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy efficiency.

Environmental responsibility is also taken into consideration in the dye process.  Garments are pigment dyed—in the US—after being sewn which reduces textile waste.  The pigment dye method also uses about 3x less water, and up to 40% less energy than the standard dye process.

In addition, since cotton is a natural fibe it decomposes over a few years. In contrast, petroleum-derived textiles, like polyester and acrylic, can take several hundred years to disappear in a landfill.  And the microplastics they shed end up in the bodies and brains of us humans.  Numerous studies have linked microplastics to cancer, heart disease, and reproductive problems.

Botany Tees was founded to make a difference—environmentally and socially.  We love plants, animals, people, and strive to do no harm any of the above.
